Here’s the latest information about the Reno/Sparks real estate market, from the experts at Dickson Realty.
What a difference 30 days makes.
Our local economy, especially the housing market, was experiencing the best December through February period that we have had in years. We are grateful for that because the housing numbers we see at the end of March reflect the escrow results opened in those three months, but do not paint the picture of what happened overnight in March.
Our showings went from 600 a week to 300 to 154 due to people being nervous about seeing a property in person. We expect to see them even lower. The number of showings from our listings are the “ripples on the water” of what is to come. While business is still happening, it is happening at a much slower rate than prior to the COVID-19 crisis.
People buy and sell real estate for many different reasons. We are continuing to assist people to do so, but now under very different circumstances. Our first priority is to keep our staff, our agents and our clients safe. Like many businesses, we are leveraging technology tools to communicate and meet with people, and you can still tour and view properties online and then under safe circumstances, see them in person. We have a health questionnaire we ask all to fill out and return to us prior to an in-person meeting. Our offices remain closed to the public and are manned by a small staff to direct calls to the appropriate people.
This report might be the last snapshot of good news for a while. Our April picture will look much different. Dickson Realty has weathered through challenging circumstances, recessions and hard times for more than 40 years. As your neighborhood and real estate experts, we’ve been here since 1973 to assist you. We are all doing what we need to do to get us all through this safely.
