The good news is the hardest part is over. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have a few more to-dos before you can kick up your feet. Get these knocked out and you’ll be enjoying your new home in no time!
(But first, coffee. Coffee first. Always.)
Make a list of the utilities you need to get up and running. Force yourself to sit down and make the calls one by one.
Complete another walkthrough taking note of any tasks, repairs, or additional cleaning you need to do. Go ahead and knock out that cleaning before you unpack further.
As you learn your new home, keep a running list of items you need from the store.
Set up bedroom furniture and make beds so you’ll have a soft and comfy place to crash at the end of today.
While it doesn’t have to be done right now, consider changing the locks on the exterior doors so you’re the only one with access to your new home.
Start unpacking. The kitchen is a good place to start after you’ve got the beds set up. Be patient. There’s lots to unpack here. But once you’re done, it’ll feel SO good.
Show your four-legged friend around. Walk the boundaries of your property, introduce him to friendly neighbor pets, and offer plenty of supervised time to sniff and explore.
Change your address at the post office and order “I’ve moved” cards to send to friends and family.
Join neighborhood social media groups and collect referrals for daycares, schools, doctors, and other service providers.
Be willing and ready to introduce yourself to neighbors. Whether they stop by or you see them on one of your many trips in and out, make it a point to say hello!
